Meet Our Speaker Alumni | Good Bitches Baking – Changing The World With Cake

This is what happens when you’re a TEDxWellington speaker/performer.

Marie and Nic, the founders of Good Bitches Baking, are trying to save the world with cake. Their idea worth spreading from TEDxWellington in 2016 isn’t as crazy as it sounds.

Tell us about your TEDxWellington experience

Being on the TEDxWellington stage was mostly terrifying but also amazing. We met some cool people, made our bitching community proud, stressed out learning our lines and laughed our asses off when we repeatedly messed them up.

What’s been the response you’ve received since sharing your story?

Having a TEDx video to refer to has been really helpful in showing what we do. We both learned a lot about how to – and how not to – give a great speech. We also learned that watching yourself on video is an experience no one should ever have to go through.

What have you been up to since you were on the TEDxWellington stage?

Oh, not much… We’ve nearly doubled in size, we pulled off an incredible Wellington on a Plate event and self-published a recipe book!

At the moment it’s not sustainable to run this beast on just volunteer work and goodwill. We are very focused on generating enough income to take on a paid staff member for the charity, so that it can keep bringing moments of sweetness to those having a tough time.

What advice would you give to those applying to be 2017 TEDxWellington speakers?

Everyone in the audience wants you to succeed. Don’t be scared.

If you want to follow in Nic and Marie’s footsteps, now’s your chance. Applications to be a speaker/performer at TEDxWellington 2017 close tomorrow. So get yours in now!
